I like the idea of a Graffiti Word Wall! The creativity is a great way to promote learning. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I would like each kid to do each word to help their understanding, but who has time for that? This might be a great activity to do after the vocab has been learned or at the end of a unit.

Crossword Puzzles

I REALLY like this idea! Have the students use their own definitions for the words and create their own styled puzzle.

Winter Word Work Dice!

So my 6th graders were in need of a little bit of motivational change with Word Work. A simple change of activity, sort of, did the trick. I created these dice which have the majority of activities we already did for Word Work and my kiddos LOVED it!

But then I realized the cuteness was lacking. Way lacking and I like cute things. There, I admitted it, I like cute things.

Anyway, I put the Winter Word Work Dice (two different ones in the pack) in my TpT store. Seriously wish I could just give them to you, but I can't. Sorry. They are way cheap though, so check them out.

The World's Most Interesting Way to Learn Words

(Predicament: a difficult situation) 

If you teach vocabulary (who doesn't) then this site is totally for you! Inside Story Flashcards are phenomenal! My students look forward to Tuesday when the new words are introduced. These words are also incorporated into my Word Work and Work on Writing stations and students can't get enough! 

Here is how vocabulary works in my room...

Tuesday- Use a pretest to introduce ALL words which include: 4 words with prefixes/suffixes, 2 commonly confused words (homonyms/homophones), and 4 vocabulary words for a total of 10 words

Tuesday - Monday- Work with these words in Word Work and Work on Writing stations. I also use the picture that belongs to each word for the daily Self Start. Students are required to write 1 question about the photo, make 1 observation, 1 prediction and write a 25 word summary of what happened in the picture. By the middle of September, my students are pretty awesome at writing each of these.
