I'm joining up with Kelly from Teaching Fourth for her Fun Friday linky party!!!!
So, I teach 6th grade in a middle school setting and at the beginning of every year I read "Dolphin Adventure" by Wayne Grover.
Best Book EVER!!! It is a true story about a man who is approached by a family of dolphins while diving. The baby dolphin has a hook and fishing line stuck around his tail fluke and is bleeding. Sharks are involved as well as plenty of 'building background' opportunities. This chapter book is only 80 pages with lots of pictures and every year my students ask if we can read it again! I always use this book to review reading strategies, because the students love making connections, predicting, asking questions, etc.
The review on Amazon says 3-4 grade, but my students are lacking in the ocean/diving area when it comes to background knowledge and we have AMAZING discussions about every aspect of this book. Click on the book and it will take you to the Amazon link!
Thanks Kelly, for the link-up invite!
This book sounds like it would be so much fun for the students to read! Thank you so much for linky up with my party! I hope to see you again next week!
